PRIVATE MEMBER'S MOTION: PALESTINE AND ISRAEL
Dr John Dinnen (Hereford) moved:
'That this Synod affirm its support for:
(a) the vital work of the World Council of Churches Ecumenical
Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI),
encouraging parishioners to volunteer for the programme and asking
churches and synods to make use of the experience of returning
participants;
(b) mission and other aid agencies working amongst Palestinians
in Gaza, the West Bank and elsewhere in the region;
(c) Israelis and Palestinians in all organisations working for
justice and peace in the area, such as the Parents Circle -
Families Forum;
and
(d) Palestinian Christians and organisations that work to ensure
their continuing presence in the Holy Land.'
The Bishop of Manchester moved as an amendment:
Leave out paragraph (a) and insert -
"(a) the vital work of those people who volunteer in Palestine
and Israel to promote peace, dialogue and the welfare of
Palestinians and Israelis, encouraging Churches and Synods to make
use of their experiences;".
Following debate, the amendment was lost.
The Bishop of Manchester did not move his second amendment:
In paragraph (c), leave out ", such as the Parents Circle -
Families Forum".
Following further debate and a division by Houses, the
unamended motion was then carried.

DIOCESAN SYNOD MOTION: VACANCY IN SEE COMMITTEES
Mr Ian Fletcher (Bradford) moved on behalf of the Bradford
Diocesan Synod:
'That this Synod resolve that the Vacancy in See Committees
Regulation 1993 (as amended in 2003, 2007and 2008) be amended so as
to ensure that Vacancy in See Committees have at least 21
members.'
Following a short debate, the motion was carried.

PRIVATE MEMBER'S MOTION: PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCILS (POWERS) MEASURE
1956
The Revd Christopher Hobbs (London) had previously
moved:
'That this Synod call on the Archbishops' Council to bring
forward legislation to amend the Parochial Church Councils (Powers)
Measure 1956 so as to permit a PCC which is a registered charity to
acquire and hold any interest in land and any interest in personal
property to be held on permanent trusts, without any requirement
for the interest to be vested in the diocesan authority.'
Following further debate and a division of Synod, the motion was
carried.
