The Chair of the Liturgical Commission (The Bishop of Wakefield)
moved:
'That the liturgical business entitled "Additional Eucharistic
Prayers" be finally approved for a period from 1 September 2012
until further Resolution of the Synod.'

THE ARCHBISHOPS' COUNCIL'S DRAFT BUDGET AND PROPOSALS FOR
APPORTIONMENT FOR 2013
Mr Andrew Britton (ex officio) (Chair of the Finance Committee
of the Archbishops' Council) moved:
'That the Synod do take note of this Report.'
Following debate, the motion was carried.
Mr Andrew Britton moved in relation to the Archbishops'
Council's expected expenditure in respect of each area of activity
specified below:
'That this Synod approve the Archbishops' Council's expenditure
for the year 2013, as shown in its budget, of £[X] (net of income
from sources apart from diocesan contributions) in respect of
[Y]':

'That this Synod approve the Archbishops' Council's proposals
(set out in the Table of Apportionment contained in GS 1872) for
the apportionment amongst the dioceses of the net sum to be
provided by them to enable the Council to meet the expected
expenditure shown in its budget for the year 2013.'
Following debate, the motion was carried.

'That this Synod approve the Archbishops' Council's proposals
(set out in the Table of Apportionment contained in GS 1872) for
the pooling adjustment for 2013 in respect of additional
maintenance grants for ordinands.'

'That the Synod do take note of this Report.'

Mr Gavin Oldham (Oxford) moved as a following motion:
'That this Synod, recognising the importantce of the experience
of good work in preventing young people from becoming alienated
from wider society, and noting the exploitation which has occurred
in some unpaid work work schemes within the "for profit" sector,
call on Her Majesty's Government to work more constructively with
the voluntary sector to harness the energy and creativity of
unemployed young people by offering non-exploitative work
experience which simultaneously benefits both the young people
themselves and the communities in which they live.'
Following debate, the motion was adjourned.

PRIVATE MEMBER'S MOTION: MANIFESTATION OF FAITH IN PUBLIC LIFE
The Revd Stephen Trott (Peterborough) moved:
'That this Synod express its conviction that it is the calling
of Christians to order and govern our lives in accordance with the
teaching of Holy Scripture, and to manifest our faith in public
life as well as in private, giving expression to our beliefs in the
written and spoken word, and in practical acts of service to the
local community and to the nation.'
The Revd Professor Richard Burridge (Universities: London) moved
as an amendment:
'Leave out "in accordance with the teaching of Holy Scripture"
and insert "following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, as
revealed in the Holy Scriptures".'
Following debate and a division of Synod, the amendment was
lost.

Dr Philip Giddings (Oxford) moved as an amendment:
'After the words "That this Synod" insert "(a)";
And
After the worlds "to the nation" insert -
"; and
(b) request the Archbishops' Council to introduce draft
legislation to embody this conviction in the Canons of the Church
of England.".'
Following debate, the amendment was lost.
