Short Summary of September 2020 meeting
The final stages for publishing a National Register of Clergy, to strengthen safeguarding in the Church of England, are now underway.
The Revd Lynda Davies, Rector of All Saints Cottenham, in Ely Diocese has been appointed to the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Panel as a parish clergy member.
General Synod voted today to acknowledge and apologise for past safeguarding wrongs. It also voted to endorse work on legislative and non-legislative changes to tighten procedures which have been identified following the Chichester Commissaries interim and final safeguarding reports.
The Church of England’s interim support scheme is part of the Church’s recognition that harm has been caused by both that abuse itself, and the Church’s responses to survivors.
Safe Spaces, the independent support service for survivors of Church-related abuse, run by the charity Victim Support, marks its first anniversary this week.
